About three weeks ago, I arrived to the Netherlands after 18 months of traveling in South America. It’s nice to be back in Europe, even though it’s still kind of cold around here; a big change from the hot and humid weather of the Caribbean coast. In this time, I have not done much besides settling in my new home base.
To immerse myself a bit into the Dutch culture, I’ve been browsing around Instagram to find some of the most inspiring Dutch accounts to follow. There’s plenty out there and this is just a small selection of what I’ve found so far, you can expect more in the coming weeks as I intend to stay in the Netherlands for a while.
@bob_sizoo
Next time someone tells you that Instagram is only for teenagers posting selfies, please point them to Bob Sizoo’s feed. He’s only 14 years old and along with his brothers @willemsizoo and @bastiaansizoo — also known collectively as the #SuperSizooBrothers — are showing there’s a lot of talent in the younger generation of Instagramers as well.
@claireonline
Claire is one of those awesome photographers who have taken on the challenge of posting only mobile photographs in her Instagram feed. Her style is simple and minimal; and she prefers to shot landscapes and natural spaces. If you’d like to know more about her, check out this interview on Instagramers.
@croyable
I first featured Eelco Roos on my round-up of my favourite iPhone only Instagramers. Since he’s one of the most well-known Dutch Instagramers out there, it’s impossible not to include him on this list. If you’d like to know more about how he started his career in Instagram and his views about the future of mobile photography, check out this video.
@herbertschroer
Herbert Schröer’s interest in photography started with Instagram, he discovered he had a good eye for creating beautiful images after he started taking photos with his iPhone. Since then photography has become more important in his life. You can also follow him on Tumblr for his DSLR shots.
@houtenboom
Max Sluiters’ gallery consists of beautifully arranged everyday objects to create harmonious compositions. His images are very creative and inspire to see the ordinary in different ways. You can also find him in Tumblr.
@macenzo
When I first stumbled across Dirk Bakker’s IG profile, I was awestruck. I love his stunning compositions, how he plays with the lines and colours of the urban landscape. Judging by his huge following, I’m not the only one loving his work. If you’d like to know more about him, check out his interview for instagramers.com.
@panyrek
Kitty de Jong is another of the most popular Instagramers in the Netherlands. She’s based in Amsterdam but also posts images from her many travels. I like her clean compositions and the subdued colours that she uses in her photos.
@sanneb10
Sanne is a student based in Amsterdam. Her stream is a mix of urban scenes and landscape shots with beautiful composition. Her boyfriend is @herbertschröer (featured above), and it’s fun to follow both their streams to see how they can view the same scenes differently.
So there you have them! Also, if you’re heading to the Netherlands you might want to check out the Instagramers Holland group for events and more inspiration; you can find them on Instagram and Facebook.
Next week, I’ll post a list with some of the most creative Instagramers to follow; people who are using IG in their own unique way. In the meantime, have a look at my Instagram profile and check out my latest shots:
