Since its early days, New York is a place that has charmed people coming from every corner of the world. Many have made this huge metropolis their home after falling in love with it. New York rarely fails to impress visitors with its fast-paced lifestyle, avant-garde attitude and irreverent character.

If you’re planning to travel to New York, here’s a list of twelve awesome Instagram accounts to get some inspiration for your trip. Like in all of our Best of Instagram series, we’ve round-up some of our favourite New York Instagrammers with a variety of styles to make sure you find something you like. Polish graphic designer Eliska Podzimkova fell in love with New York when she studied there a couple of years ago. After she left, she kept dreaming of the city. So she created an Instagram account to post her collaborations with local photographers in which she adds her animations to their images when they use the hashtag #animateny.

Photographer Matt Coch features shots in his IG gallery of NYC’s unusual characters and hidden corners. In his compositions, he likes to play with light, shadows and reflections. Plus, he only posts shots taken with a mobile phone.

For Rob Ceos photography was initially just a hobby. However, with Instagram it evolved into something more professional. In his gallery you’ll find some epic takes of New York shot from above and a fair share of surreal sunset shots. A real must-see.

After losing his trading job in Chicago, Brandon decided to move to New York and start taking portraits of people on the streets. This was the start of Humans of New York, one of the most successful blogs out there. Everyday, Brandon shares photographs of random strangers he meets on the street and a bit of their stories. Some of them are heartbreaking, others are inspiring and funny.

17-year-old Humza Deas photographs New York from places only a few daredevils dare to go. He shots the city from rooftops and the top of its many bridges. He’s a high-profile member of a community of urban explorers who have been dubbed the outlaw Instagrammers.

Lucas is a 16-year-old New Yorker who snaps gorgeous compositions with his iPhone. His IG gallery takes us on a ride through NYC’s streets and makes us hope that it won’t be too long until we are back in the city again.

Mike Gutkin is a photographer and research scientist who showcases images taken with his iPhone only. He shots mostly cityscapes that capture the essence of New York’s character.

Liz Eswein, Excecutive Director of social media agency Laundry Service, shares with us beautiful snaps of life in New York. With over a million followers, she’s an avid Instagramer and collaborates in all sorts of different projects with top brands.

This account is managed by Joshua Kissi, one of the guys behind the popular lifestyle blog Street Etiquette. His gallery is a collection of urban shots with a sharp sense of style.

Kevin Lu is the man behind one of the most popular Instagram accounts from New York. He’s been featured on the Instagram blog several times and he’s an active member of the local community. Last year, he quit his job as an engineer to do a road trip around the USA with a fellow Instagramer.

Clifton shows on his IG gallery a different perspective of New York City, the subway system. He started this account showing deserted subway stations. However, lately he’s featuring more portraits with models taken underground.

I’ve been to Berlin many times and it’s one of my favourite places in the world. Perhaps one day I’ll get to live there for a while.
