Best Things to Do in Puerto Aventuras for Families

Located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, Puerto Aventuras is one of the best places for traveling families to explore the Riviera Maya. This private gated community offers a safe place with plenty of options for accommodation, food and entertainment. If you are looking for a family friendly place to stay, we recommend the Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa, an all-inclusive resort that offers deluxe amenities at reasonable prices. For those staying in the area, these are some of the best things to do in Puerto Aventuras for families.

Xpu-ha Beach

This secluded beach is a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. Xpu-ha beach is located within a private property so you’ll have to pay a small access fee. It’s a nice and calm spot to enjoy a relaxing time with the family. With its perfect white sand, calm sea with almost no waves, and gorgeous spots for snorkeling, Xpu-ha beach is a great place to spend some quality time with your kids.

CEDAM Museum

This small and unique museum features a collection of objects recovered from shipwrecks in the area. It is a great place to learn about the local culture and nature, and there is also a small collection of artifacts found in the archaeological sites nearby. Entrance is free, but donations are appreciated.

Fatima Bay

Located right in Puerto Aventuras, this calm bay is the perfect spot to relax if you don’t feel like venturing out too far. There are lots of activities to do for all in the family: snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and, when the wind blows, any sort of wind sport. If you buy a day pass, you can also use the hotel facilities.

Chan Yu Yum

Another of the beaches in Puerto Aventuras, Chan Yu Yum is a great place for snorkeling. Here, the sea waters are calm, pristine, warm and shallow, which makes this beach an ideal hangout for younger kids. The public entrance to the beach is not well marked, so ask the locals for assistance if you need help finding it.

Yal-ku Lagoon

This beautiful salt water lagoon is one of the best places to teach your kids how to snorkel. Its serene waters are home to parrot fish, turtles, and stingrays, just to name a few species. Its name means “place of the turtles” in Mayan and many turtles flock to this area. Yal-Ku Lagoon is located about 11 miles south of Puerto Aventuras, so it’s the perfect place for a family day trip.

Ecopark Kantun Chi

Located just three miles north of Puerto Aventuras, the Ecopark Kantun Chi is a must for adventurous families. Its name means “Yellow Stone Mouth” in the Mayan language. The ecopark lies in the middle of the jungle and features several cenotes (natural freshwater sinkholes) which visitors can explore and swim into. Make sure you bring your snorkeling gear and underwater camera. In this underground cavern, your whole family will be treated to an unforgettable experience.
