El Peñol in Colombia

Weekly Photo: El Peñol in Colombia

One of the most impressive views that I saw during my travels in Colombia, was the imposing sight of El Peñol — a huge monolith located 86 kilometres northeast of Medellin. When I first saw this huge rock popping out of this fairy tale landscape, it took my breath away. It looks like something out of “Lord of the Rings”. If you’re planning to travel around Medellín in Colombia, you should not miss visiting El Peñol!

Have you been to el Peñol? How did you like it? Which other sites would you recommend for visiting around Medellín? Leave a comment, I’d love to know!

  • What a spectacular view! Can’t believe we missed it when we were in Colombia, another reason to make me want to return to this beautiful country again!

    • I’m glad I’ve given you another reason to go back to Colombia! Thanks for stopping by, Lydian! :)

  • My girlfriend (now wife) took me there in our first day together. The climb to the top is long but the view at the top is spectacular. Plan on spending the day and grab lunch in town. Well worth visiting.
