Scenes from New York

Last spring, I had the chance to visit New York City for a few days before catching my flight back to Europe. This is a place that has always fascinated me and it always leaves me energised and inspired. This time was no different and I enjoyed walking up and down its kilometric sidewalks contemplating the fast paced urban life passing me by. Here are some of my favourite shots from this visit, hope you enjoy them :)

Anytime I come to New York, I make sure to set aside an afternoon to visit the MoMA. It’s one of my favorite museums in the world and there’s always something different and interesting going on. Most times, I find something that makes me think and gets my creative mind flowing. It’s also a great place for people-watching.

2. Creative Gardening in Brooklyn

Ever since my aunt made the move from Manhattan to Brooklyn, this hip neighborhood became my favorite part of the city; and even if she has moved on to warmer climates I still like to go around and get lost in its streets. This time, I found a small street art installation featuring footwear as plant pots mixed with other elements. Some of the pieces were very clever.

3. Mosaic House in Brooklyn

Another place I stumbled upon during my visit, was the home of artist Susan Gardner which is covered in colorful mosaic tiles and beads. Apparently, she started the project in 2001 after 9/11 as a celebration of life and with the intention to cheer people up. She liked it so much that she hasn’t stopped adding to it since then and now her goal is to cover the whole façade of the building!

4. Boulders in Central Park

Ever since I started rock climbing, I always have my eyes open for spots to climb; but I was totally blown away when I found out that there are boulders right in the middle of Manhattan! Now I can see that my friend Alain was right when he said that there’s always climbing anywhere you go!

5. The Naked Cowboy

The Naked Cowboy in Times Square, New York
The first time I saw this guy was on TV, when he appeared in David Letterman’s show. So it was funny to see him shaking his booty in the middle of Times Square, there were some girls who were actually squealing in delight! Only in NYC, I guess…

6. Samantha Margulies Performing Opera in the Subway

This was hands down my favorite sight from my stay in NYC. As I ended an exhausting day of walking all over Manhattan, I was making my way back to my friend’s apartment when I heard this amazing voice in the Union Square Park subway station. I got lucky and caught a performance by Samantha Margulies as she serenade passers-by with her voice. Enjoy!
